Free Knit Tank Top- Surfside Tank

Free Knit Tank Top- Surfside Tank

Posted by Lorene Eppolite on

Aloha Furlers! With Summer in full swing and stress feeling like it’s all-consuming, I’m excited to bring a little slice of paradise to you. With so much still closed, I’ve been bringing my projects with me while finding solace in nature. I made this tank mainly while sitting at the beach watching my kids play or watching a magical sunset with pink fluffy clouds.

For the Surfside Tank I went into my yarn stash and used Mary Maxim Simply Natural which is a blend of Cotton and Bamboo. You can make a Surfside Tank in stripes, solid, or multi colored and if you have some Furls Whim DK yarn on hand you can use it as a substitute. Now grab your yarn and needles and enjoy this beginner-friendly knit tank pattern. I hope you can close your eyes and hear the waves while you’re relaxing into your project.

PART ONE

The Surfside tank is worked from the bottom up in the round and then the front/back is worked in rows. This week is cast on and knit in the round. Next week you will be dividing the back from the front and finishing up the back. In the last week, you will be working on the neckline panels and finishing up your tank.

I’m so excited to be the guest designer for this month. I can’t wait to see what yarn you picked out so please post your progress on Instagram and use #pinkplumeriamaui and #furlskal. I’ll keep a watchful eye out for your progress and will be sharing your creations!

Note:

- 2 strands are held together throughout.

With 2 strands of yarn CO 108 (114, 120, 132, 148, 170, 172, 178, 194).

Body:

Round 1: Joining in the round, place SM, K all sts around. 108 (114, 120, 132, 148, 170, 172, 178, 194) sts

Rounds 2-72 (75, 75, 85, 88, 90, 90, 92, 92): K all rounds, or to desired length.

PART TWO

I hope knitting in the round was soothing for your soul! When I’m knitting at home I usually curl up with a cup of earl grey tea and my latest Netflix binge. Did you choose a solid, stripes or multi colored scheme? You have completed the body part of your tank, it’s now time to move onto dividing the back from the front. This part is worked in rows and I like to use pieces of yarn as holders. However if you have extra cords for your circular needles those work really well too. Let’s get to it!

Divide Fronts & Back

Back

Row 1 (RS): K38 (40, 42, 46, 52, 60, 62, 62, 68). Turn work.

Row 2: K2, P34 (36, 38, 42, 48, 56, 58, 58, 64), K2. Turn work.

Rows 3-20 (22, 24, 26, 30, 32, 34, 34, 36): Repeat Rows 1 & 2.

Next 6 Rows: K all sts.

Shape Shoulders

Next Row (RS): K8 (8, 8, 8, 9, 11, 11, 11, 13), BO 22 (24, 26, 30, 34, 38, 40, 40, 42), K8 (8, 8, 8, 9, 11, 11, 11, 13). 8 (8, 8, 8, 9, 11, 11, 11, 13) sts remain for each shoulder.

All Sizes: Put live sts on a holder(s) & fasten off.

PART THREE

As August is coming to an end and September will bring cooler weather, you bet I’ll keep wearing my Surfside Tank to layer under jackets. I’ve been working on my third tank using Furls Whim DK yarn and I can’t wait to wear it.

You have made it to the front of the tank and will be making the right and left front panels to finish it off. I’ll miss you but please remember to follow me @pinkplumeriamaui on Instagram and use #pinkplumeriamaui and #furlskal so I can see and share your finished tanks.

A big mahalo Furlers!! I am so grateful to you for participating in Furls KAL! A huge mahalo to Furls for having me as the designer for this month, it’s truly been an honor and so much fun to watch everyone make their Surfside Tanks. If you want to stay in touch with me you can join my newsletter as I’m always sending out updates on pattern releases.

Now let's finish your Surfside Tank!
