Free Tunisian Scarf Pattern- Kaira

Posted by Lorene Eppolite on

Blocks of color make this asymmetrical, Tunisian shawl fun and perfect for spring and summer! The Kaira Tunisian shawl is a wonderful addition to any outfit this spring, layer it over a spring dress or even wear it as a scarf with a groovy denim jacket.

The name Kaira means unique and peaceful and you will be at peace while you make this simple yet elegant shawl. This shawl has a wide end that tapers to a point making this wrap unique. I love all of the different ways this shawl can be worn and arranged as either a small shawl or a scarf.

This shawl is a great beginner pattern for those looking to widen their crochet skills and learn a new technique. Simple increases make this a fun and easy shawl to crochet and the blocks of color give the maker a chance to add their own touch to it!

Notes and Tips

- This pattern is worked flat with the right side of the work facing.

- At the beginning of each row, the first stitch is on the hook and counts as a Tunisian knit stitch.

- Do not turn your work at the beginning of each new row. Each row is worked from right to left (forward pass) and then from left to right (return pass).

- When working a tunisian full stitch and tunisian knit stitch into the last stitch, this counts as an increase.

- Color changes will be made in the return pass.

- How To Work Into The Last Stitch Of Each Row: When you have 1 stitch remaining, tilt the work and insert the hook into the last 2 vertical bars at the end of the row. This counts as a tunisian knit stitch.

- Border color changes should be made by inserting the hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over with the new color and pull through the loops on the hook to complete the single crochet.

We will begin with choosing our yarn and swatching to meet gauge. If your gauge swatch is not coming out the right measurement, try going up or down a hook size. Have fun choosing your 3 colors to make your Kaira Tunisian Shawl, there are too many options to count!

For part one, we will be jumping right into crocheting the shawl and we will crochet the first half of the shawl by starting at the smallest point and increasing till the widest point.
